Coaches & Referees
Our coaches and referees are the heart of Polar Bear Hockey. From teaching fundamentals and fostering teamwork to ensuring safety and fair play, these leaders set the tone every time our players step on the ice. This page provides everything you need to stay registered, certified, and read for the season. Thank you for stepping up to lead our players and model what it means to play with integrity, teamwork, and heart!
Coaches
USA Hockey and the Coaching Education Program require both certification and registration to be eligible to coach. PBH Coaches will be reimbursed for all associated fees, upon request.
- Register as a member of USA Hockey
- Complete the background screening
- Complete the Safe Sport Training
- Complete the online age-specific module(s) for the age level of play you are coaching
- Find, register and attend the required certification clinic

Once all of the above registration and certifications are complete, you may register as a coach with PBH.
Referees
USA Hockey requires completion of the following steps each year:
- Register as an Ice Official with USA Hockey
- Complete the SafeSport Training
- Complete the background screening
- Complete online education modules
- Complete a membership level-specific playing rule exercise
- Complete USA Hockey Officiating classroom seminar requirements

Once you complete all of the above steps, and the USA Hockey National Office receives your Registration Fee and Seminar Attendance confirmation, you will receive your USA Hockey Officiating Card and Sweater Crest and will be ready to work games. You may then register as a referee with PBH.
